Thuban Sargas (pronounced: THOO-ban SAR-goss) is a brutal Rephaim.

Biography[]

History[]

Thuban was among the large group of Rephaim who arrived on Earth from the Netherworld in 1859.

The Bone Season[]

He selects Ivy Jacob to be keeper of in Sheol I. After Carl Dempsey-Brown rats out Ivy for sneaking food from an amaurotic, Thuban punishes her by shaving her head and beating her. Thuban and Ivy are at Port Meadow when Warden brings Paige Mahoney for her first training session. He calls Warden the royal concubine. Thuban and Warden verbally spar, with Warden coming out on top. Because Thuban can't retaliate, he slaps Ivy across the face.

Paige is almost caught stealing supplies in the House by Thuban. She is saved when Terebell Sheratan protects her. Thuban taunts Terebell by mentioned the "days when she had power over him" and how long ago that time was. He further taunts her by discussing the time she spent with the other Ranthen in Tom Tower being tortured by Nashira Sargas.

The Song Rising[]

Now that Kraz Sargas is gone, Thuban is named blood-heir of the Rephaim.

The Mask Falling[]

Thuban is no longer blood-heir. Arcturus believes that Thuban will be at Sheol II. Because of his violent nature and cruelty, it's the only place Nashira could put him. Sure enough, when he, Paige, and the other voyants arrive in Sheol II to free the prisoners, Thuban is there. Thuban comes across Paige and she sees that he's carrying Malperdy's scalp. Attempting to stall for time, Paige taunts him. Thuban tells her he “no longer has a great deal of patience for the sound of human beings.” He has become even more insane. Thuban informs Paige that he has been learning medieval torture techniques and he looks forward to trying them out on her and Warden. Paige taunts him about his low standing with Nashira and the other Rephaim. Arcturus arrives and engages Thuban in a sword fight. Situla Mesarthim, Mirzam, Heze, and another Reph arrive to support Thuban. Arcturus is able to escape from them, but not before taking out Thuban's right eye.

Physical Description[]

Like all Rephaim, Thuban is incredibly tall with chartreuse yellow eyes, except for when he has fed on aura. His hooded eyes are the yellow of molten steel. As a Sargas, his sarx is a silver-gold metallic. He has a cruel face. He has long golden hair. He appears to be in his late twenties. His face doesn't show his anger, his words are enough. As per Reph custom, he wears gloves. In his fight with Arcturus in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles, he loses his right eye, and it is now just a black pit.

Personality[]

Thuban has an especially contemptuous view of human worth, viewing them about on par with animals, if not lower. He refers to humans as an "it." Thuban lacks the qualities necessary in a diplomat, politician, or a strategist. He is only capable of cruelty. For Thuban, there could be no greater humiliation than losing to a human. After the events of the New Year, and by the time he begins living in Sheol II, Thuban has become even more insane and unhinged. Even the façade of his restraint has evaporated.

Trivia[]
