The Bone Season Wiki

Sheol II was a Rephaite settlement in the Scion Republic of France, established as part of the Great Territorial Act at the Château de Versailles.

Description[]

Sheol II is the second Rephaite settlement to be established in Scion West. The harvest citadel is the Scion Citadel of Paris. The area has been classified by Scion as a Type A Restricted Sector in order to keep denizens from getting too close.

Unlike most remnants of the monarch days, which are tragic ruins, Versailles has been restored to its former magnificence, ready to house the Rephaim. The palace is a city unto itself. Because it is so new, there is no shantytown or equivalent to the Rookery.

There is an underground reservoir beneath the palace that was used to fill fountains and pools during the monarch days. It can be accessed through the palace itself or the nearby Rue des Réservoirs. The royal stables are still intact. The approach to the palace is vast and cobblestoned. The lofty gates are covered in gold leaf and polished to a glow. ScionIDE soldiers guard the gates. There are iron railings around the palace. Cast-iron gas lamps illuminate the outside.

The Cimetière Notre-Dame is northeast of the palace. The side entrance to the palace leads into the gardens. The gardens are to the east of the palace, all are very overgrown, and next to the long-neglected groves which are directly next to the palace itself. There is a large fountain that was once called the Bassin de Neptune, or the Neptune Basin. There's a guardhouse with a mansard, meaning steeply sloping, roof by the side entrance. The back entrance of the palace opens onto the Lower Gallery.

The Lower Gallery runs underneath the Hall of Mirrors. It is attached to the central vestibule of the palace, which has smooth red pillars veined with white. The front of the palace is made of black-and-white marble. A wide staircase leads to the former apartments of the queens of France. Faded gold leaf shines dully on the walls, reflecting the torches that burn at regular intervals. One of the rooms is l’appartement du Roi, or the King's Apartments. The windows of the King's Apartments look out over the front courtyard. The Hall of Mirrors lead to the King's Apartments. As Grand Overseers, Jaxon Hall makes the King's Apartments his residence.

During the prison break staged by Paige Mahoney, Arcturus Mesarthim, and the perdues—followers of Le Vieux Orphelin—resulted in the freeing of the humans imprisoned at Versailles and the burning down of the palace. Nashira Sargas is furious, and is demanding Grand Inquisitor Georges Benoît Ménard and France pay reparations.
