Binders are a type of guardian that have a higher degree of control over spirit and can bend ordinary ethereo-spatial limits. Because they are classified as guardians, their auras are orange.

A binder's specific ability is just as the name suggests. By carving the name of a spirit onto their body, a binder is able to hold control over the spirit. This physical tie between the binder and the spirit makes them able to set limits as to how far the spirit can drift, and by simply calling out the spirit's name, they can summon any one of their boundlings to them. If thrown, as a spool might be, the binder's spirits carry with them the power, determination, and energy that their master puts into them. This makes their spools stronger than a non-binder's spools. A binder's boundlings can manipulate the fabric of a voyant's dreamscape, and even kill them by snapping their silver cord. A powerful binder's boundlings can be almost as strong as a dreamwalker's dream-form. Some binders have the power to push weak spirits right out of their dreamscapes.
Once the blood from the binding washes away, the binder's hold on the spirit will weaken. However, a binder may scar his or her body with the name to make an irrevocable blood bond, which be broken only by the death of the binder or the banishment of the spirit.
If a binder intends to keep a spirit temporarily, they only need to carve the name using shallow cuts, as once the wound heals the spirits is no longer in their possession. But if the binder wishes to keep a spirit, they must scar themselves with its name. Once a binder's heart stops beating, his boundlings are free to go.
